Other conglomerates are now starting to follow suit including cosmetics giant Estee Lauder, who aims to increase global sales by tapping into the billion person population with an increasing disposable income.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br />This consumer market is a reflection of the energy consumption of African nations and how, even though still a long way off achieving a 'base-load', the increase in energy access is already changing the outlook for so many highly employable young men and women.<br /><br />The growth of this consumer market provides significant opportunities for investors such as private equity funds who understand the potential in Africa, especially in areas such as energy access and ICT. <br /><br />The most notable of these are Blackstone, KKR, the Abraaj Group and the Carlyle Group, who have invested billions of dollars in pursuit of cornerstone energy projects that will draw directly on the spending power of the consumer. Regions such as the GCC or Africa's own telecoms success demonstrate the scale of the opportunity in countries such as Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal. The key differentiator between Africa and the GCC is that Africa has a local market economy of hundreds of millions of people which, within 20 years, will change the global consumer purchasing map forever.<br /><br />The Powering Africa: Summit is a meeting place to enable dialogue between public and private sector decision-makers across the US and Africa, promoting the investment opportunities in Africa's power sector. Nigeria – the last polio-endemic country in Africa – was removed from the World Health Organization’s list of endemic countries in September, following one year without a new case of the wild virus. The last wild polio case on the African continent was in August 2014.<br /><br /> “We are closer than ever to achieving a polio-free world,” said Michael K. McGovern, chair of Rotary’s International PolioPlus Committee. “To ensure that no child ever again suffers the devastating effects of this disease, we must all ensure that the necessary funds and political will are firmly in place in 2016.” <br /><br />Today, just two countries – Afghanistan and Pakistan – are reporting a single strain of the wild virus.<br /><br />To sustain this progress, and protect all children from polio, experts say $1.5 billion is urgently needed. Without full funding and political commitment, the disease could return to previously polio-free countries, putting children everywhere at risk.<br /><br />Rotary’s funds will support efforts to keep 5 countries in Africa polio-free: Nigeria ($5,5), Cameroon ($1.6 million), Chad ($2 million); Ethiopia ($4.1 million), and S0malia ($1,8 million). Additional funds will be support polio eradication efforts in endemic and at-risk countries: Pakistan ($11.4 million), Afghanistan ($6 million), Iraq ($1,6 million) and India ($600 000). Finally, ($350 000) in funds will be dedicated to polio research.<br /><br />Rotary launched its polio immunization program <a href="http://www.endpolio.org/">PolioPlus</a> in 1985, and in 1988 became a spearheading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative with the <a href="http://www.polioeradication.org/">WHO</a>, UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which was later joined by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Since the initiative launched, the incidence of polio has plummeted by more than 99.9 percent, from about 350,000 cases a year to 70 confirmed to date in 2015.<br /><br />Rotary has contributed more than $1.5 billion and countless volunteer hours to fight polio. This is an Africa to Africa investment forum aimed at strengthening business ties within Africa, both at a business and presidential level. <br /><br />The Forum will be opened by the President of Egypt, H.E. Abdel Fateh El-Sisi, and a number of African Heads of State are also expected at the forum. Last June, in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, three African regional economic communities, COMESA, SADC and the EAC signed a tripartite agreement creating the biggest free trade area on the continent. The Africa 2016 Forum aims to reflect on the African opportunity, as well as putting to practice the African integration story. <br /><br />The Forum was initiated - and is spearheaded by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), the development arm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Dr. Hazem Fahmy, the Secretary General of the EAPD, is confident that the Forum will help drive the business agenda: "We are launching what we feel will become an important event to help drive more intra-African investment and trade. Egypt is an important partner. We have a number of established groups that have already successfully invested in East and Southern Africa. A number of Egyptian companies in the pharmaceutical and ICT industries can offer expertise and solutions that can be replicated throughout our beloved continent. We also have the needed infrastructure to support them. Lastly, our strategic relationship with a number of countries in the Gulf can help other African countries access international capital. The Africa 2016 Forum will help us better understand the African opportunity and will help ensure that policy makers start putting the mechanics in place to make it easier for investors to access our markets." <br /><br />This was a sentiment that was also expressed by Heba Salama, who heads COMESA's Regional Investment Agency: "The aim of the Forum, as well as discussing some of the most pressing issues in Africa today, is to encourage as much B2B interaction. We know that Africa offers the highest rate of return of any region in the world. However, too often, the African private sector is not taking advantage of this opportunity outside of their borders. We aim to change this." <br /><br />The programme will have a big focus on boosting intra-Africa trade and investment by developing new and strategic public and private sector alliances. The organizers expect 1,000 delegates to attend the Forum. <br /><br />Egypt is becoming an attractive regional gateway for international businesses wanting to access large African markets and for the private sector looking for growth partners. A number of Egyptian conglomerates have already invested in a number of African countries in infrastructure, mining, telecoms, manufacturing, finance, and other important economic sectors. And some Egyptian investment banks have in the past year facilitated investments from the Middle East into the region. <br /><br />Sitting at the crossroads of Europe, the Gulf, Asia, and Africa, Egypt is not only focusing on building on its existing relationships with its traditional neighbors but also strengthening its engagement with partners within Africa. <br /><br />"Last year, following our Egypt the Future conference, we managed to secure billions of dollars of commitments and investment. Recently, another investor from the Gulf also announced a multi-billion dollar real estate investment project in the country. The opportunity is very much alive, as much in Egypt as in the rest of Africa, and the time is now," according to Ashraf Salman, Minister of Investment for Egypt. <br /><br />The Bretton Woods institutions have forecast economic growth figures for Egypt of around 4 percent over the next two years. This growth, characterised by renewed investments by several multinational companies across various sectors- from oil (BP has invested in $12-billion in a new project) to beverages (Coca-Cola has made a commitment to spend $500m in Egypt within the next three years) and agribusiness, infrastructure materials and pharmaceuticals, coupled with the new political dispensation, clearly demonstrate that Egypt is on the road of transformational change. <br /><br />The new Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA) will lead to the creation of a "borderless economy" that would rank 13th in the world in terms of GDP. It presents an important opportunity not only to harmonise regulations but also to enable deep integration amongst African economies, with a focus on boosting intra-African trade and implementing a number of action plans that relate to investment, trade, infrastructure, industrialisation, productive capacity and trade facilitation. <br /><br />The structure and format of the forum has been specifically designed to provide opportunities to meet face-to-face with high profile government and business decision-makers. There will also be unrivalled access to high level Egyptian policy makers who will be able to provide first hand insights into opportunities and projects in the country. <br /><br />Investment promotion agencies from all over Africa will also be showcasing both public and private investment opportunities and projects that are seeking partners. Africa 2016 will bring such partners to the table. <br /><br />"Europe was united through economic collaboration," added Ambassador Fahmy, "and by creating a competitive edge in strategic sectors, primarily in steel and coal. The completion of these transactions remains subject to approval by the competent authorities.<br /><br />These acquisitions provide a clear illustration of Orange’s international development strategy, which places a priority on accelerating growth in high-potential, emerging markets where the Group is not already present.<br /><br />Through this deal, Orange will reinforce its presence in Africa with two additional countries, adding almost 5.5 million customers to its mobile customer base. This acquisition marks an important step forward in Orange’s dynamic growth strategy and will bring the Group’s African footprint up to 20 countries in 2016.<br /><br />This is further to the initial agreement signed between Airtel and Orange in July 2015 regarding the potential acquisition of Airtel’s operations in Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Chad and Congo Brazzaville. International Expo Consults (IEC) stated that one of the reasons for global exhibitors setting their sights on this region is due to the forecasted 7.2% revenue growth in the printing industry per annum.<br /><br />“Every edition, we receive an unbelievable amount of support from our African visitors. With Africa’s growing economy and its upcoming developments come the increasing demand for state-of-the-art printing equipment. Most visitors from Africa visit the trade show to discover the industry’s cutting-edge trends and products and to network with international stakeholders,” says Abdul Rahman Falaknaz, Chairman of IEC.<br /><br />Falaknaz added, “Because Africa’s printing industry is experiencing a dramatic growth, their industry can benefit from the approach and ideas of different exhibitors in and around the Middle East that they will witness in the exhibition.”<br /><br />Africa’s gross domestic product in the past decade has been rapidly expanding compared to the global GDP average. Africa is considered to be a USD2 trillion economy, and reports revealed that six out of ten fastest growing economies in the world are in Africa.<br /><br />“Africa’s booming economy is an indicator that its signage and graphic sector will experience a huge boost. Hivyo udhibiti wa matumizi yake unahitaji maamuzi magumu ya Serikali pamoja na ushirikiano wa Kitaifa, Kikanda na Dunia kwa ujumla.<br /><br />Balozi Seif alisema licha ya changamoto zilizopo za utekelezaji wa sheria na kanuni za udhibiti wa dawa za kulevya katika kukabiliana na wimbi la uingizaji, uuzaji na matumizi ya dawa za kulevya Nchini, lakini Serikali kupitia vyombo vyake vya dola imefanikiwa kuwakamata wahusika wa biashara hiyo katika kipindi cha mwaka 2015.<br /><br />Alisema Watu wapatao 48 walikamatwa na Kilo Mia 354.7 za dawa za kulevya zikiwemo bangi na heroin na kufikishwa kwenye vyombo vya sheria ambapo watuhumiwa wawili walifutiwa makosa yao baada ya kukosekana ushahidi, mashtaka 18 yanaendelea kusikilizwa Mahakamani na mashtaka 28 yaliyobakia yanaendelea na uchunguzi.<br /><br />Balozi Seif alifahamisha kwamba suala la rushwa limekuwa likipewa nafasi kubwa kuwa ni miongoni mwa vikwazo vya kupata mafanikio dhidi ya vita vya dawa za kulevya licha ya juhudi kubwa inayochukuliwa na Serikali katika kupambana na dhambi hiyo.<br /><br />Alisisitiza kwamba mafanikio dhidi ya vita hivyo vya uzalishaji, uingizaji, usambazaji na utumiaji wa dawa za kulevya unategemea wadau wote kuanzia wananchi, taasisi binafsi pamoja na zile za umma.<br /><br />“Wananchi wako karibu na maeneo yanayolimwa na kuzwa bangi, Polisi na uhamiaji wanayo nafasi kubwa ya kuwatambua wanaoingiza na kuuza dawa za kulevya, Ofisi ya Mkurugenzi mashtaka inayo wajibu wa kutayarisha hati zisizokuwa na kasoro na mahakama ina jukumu la kuharakisha kutoa hukumu stahiki kwa mujibu wa sheria “. Alisema Balozi Seif.<br /><br />“ Kwa hakika kila taasisi sambamba na jamii zikiamua kuwajibika ipasavyo vita dhidi ya dawa za kulevya vitafanikiwa vyema “. Alisisitiza Makamu wa Pili wa Rais wa Zanzibar.<br /><br />Balozi Seif alitoa wito kwa Ofisi ya Makamu wa Kwanza wa Rais wa Zanzibar kupitia Tume ya Kitaifa ya udhibiti na kuratibu dawa za kulevya kuongeza juhudi katika kuwajenga uwezo wa kitaaluma watendaji ili wasimamie vizuri vituo vya kurekebishia tabia kwa vijana walioamua kuachana na matumizi ya dawa za kulevya.<br /><br />Alizipongeza Taasisi na watu binafsi waliojitokeza kuonyesha hisia zao juu ya kukerwa na tatizo hilo ambalo kwa akiasi kikubwa limekuwa likichangia kuathiri nguvu kazi za Taifa hili ambazo zaidi ni Vijana.<br /><br />Balozi Seif alieleza kwamba hatua ya kuanzishwa Nyumba za makaazi ya Vijana wanaoacha matumizi ya dawa za kulevya maarufu Sober House ni kitendo cha kizalendo cha kupigiwa mfano ambacho hata Serikali Kuu inakithamini na kuahidi kushirikiana nao katika kuinusuru Jamii dhidi ya janga hilo thakili.<br /><br />“ Kufanikiwa kwa ujenzi huu ni kuinusuru jamii yetu kutokana na matatizo mbali mbali yanayosababishwa na janga hili la dawa za kulevya. Ofisi za Wakuu wa Mikoa, Wilaya, Wananchi pamoja Taasisi nyengine ziendelee kutoa ushirikiano utakaosaidia kukamilika kwa kituo hicho “. Halkadhalika Mtu Mmoja kati ya Watu 10 Duniani kote hawapati maji safi na salama “. Alisema Balozi Seif.<br /><br />Makamu wa Pili wa Rais wa Zanzibar aliwakumbusha Wananchi lazima wajenge tabia ya kushiriki kikamilifu katika uhifadhi wa vianzio vya maji kwa lengo la kulinda mazingira.<br /><br />Alisema ugomvi mkubwa unaibuka na kuendelea katika maeneo tofauti nchini kati ya Serikali na baadhi ya Wananchi kutokana na ile tabia ya watu wachache kuamua kujenga nyumba za makaazi katika vianzio vya maji.<br /><br />Aliwapongeza Wananchi wa Kisiwa cha Tumbatu kwa ustahamilivu wao wa muda mrefu ambao ulipelekea kukosa huduma za maji na kulazimika kutumia muda wao mrefu uliopaswa kuuelekeza katika kazi za maendeleo na kutafuta maji ambao mengine sio salama.<br /><br />Akitoa Taarifa ya Kitaalamu ya mradi wa maji safi na salama katika Kisiwa cha Tumbatu Katibu Mkuu Wizara ya Ardhi, Mkaazi, Maji na Nishati Zanzibar Nd. Ali Khalil Mirza alisema mradi huo utatoa fursa ya kuhudumia Wananchi wa Kisiwa hicho wapatao elfu 8,252.<br /><br />Nd. Mirza alisema mradi huo utakaogharimu zaidi ya shilingi Bilioni moja katika awamu zote mbili uliolenga kuwakomboa Wananchi hao uligharamiwa na Serikali ya Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar kwa kushirikiana na Serikali za Marekani na Iran.<br /><br />Alieleza kwamba ujenzi wa mradi huo ulioanzia kwa hatua ya uchimbaji wa visima viwili vyenye uwezo wa kuzalisha Maji Lita Laki 250,000 katika Vijiji vya Tingatinga na Pale ulienda sambamba na ulazaji wa Mabomba yenye urefu wa Kilomita 8.25.<br /><br />Katibu Mkuu huyo wa Ardhi, Makaazi, Maji na Nishati alifahamisha kwamba awamu ya kwanza ya mradi huo tayari imeshatumia zaidi ya shilingi Mia 636.7 Milioni wakati ile iliyobakia inatarajiwa kutumia shilingi Milioni 400.<br /><br />Mapema akisoma Risala ya Wananchi wa Kisiwa hicho Katibu Tawala wa Wilaya ndogo ya Tumbatu Ndugu Khatib Habib Ali alisema kukamilika kwa mradi huo wa maji safi na salama kutawapunguzia usumbufu wa kupata huduma hiyo hasa akina Mama.<br /><br />Nd. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <span style="font-size: large;">Na Jumbe Ismailly-Igunga </span><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br />Wakati serikali ya awamu ya tano ikiendelea kuziba mianya ya upotevu wa fedha za umma pamoja na wananchi nchini,Meneja wa Mamlaka ya maji safi na maji taka(IGUWASA) wilayani Igunga,Mkoani Tabora,Raphael Merumba anakabiliwa na tuhuma za kununua chombo cha kwenye tenki la maji katika chujio la maji ambalo ni kichakavu,lililoko Bulenya,wilayani hapa. <br /><br />Wakizungumza kwa nyakati tofauti na gazeti hili kwa masharti ya kutotajwa majina yao gazetini,baadhi ya watumishi wa idara hiyo walisema kwamba kulikuwa kumejitokeza kuharibika baadhi ya miundombinu katika matenki ya maji yanayosafirisha maji kutoka bwawa la Bulenya hadi mjini Igunga. <br /><br />Watumishi hao hata hivyo walidai kuwa chombo kilichoharibika kinacchofahamika kwa jina la foot valve ambahco husafirisha maji bila kupitisha uchafu na kwamba baada ya kuharibika,ndipo meneja huyo wakati akiwa Mkoani Mwanza kwa shughuli zake binafsi,aliamua kwenda kununua kifaa hicho katika maduka ya wafanyabiashara kwa bei ya shilingi 950,000/= bila kufuata taratibu za manunuzi. <br /><br />Hata hivyo wananchi hao walibainisha kuwa baada ya kuifikisha foot valve hiyo na walipoifunga ilishindikana huku ikionekana ilishatumika na kwa sasa imepulizwa rangi,hali ambayo mafundi hao walilazimika kuanza kuitengeneza foot valve ile iliyokuwa ya zamani na kufanikisha kurejesha upatikanaji wa maji katika mji wa Igunga. <br /><br />“Sisi kama watumishi ametushangaza sana meneja huyo kwani fedha hizo alizolipwa kwa foot valve aliyonunua itakuwa ameiibia serikali kwa kuwa haikufanya kazi na haifai kwani imepuliziwa rangi tu na ndio maana hakutushirikisha ili kujua kwamba inatakiwa foot valve nyingine” walisisitiza. <br /><br />Hata hivyo watumishi hao walibainisha kuwa unahitajika uchunguzi wa kina kutoka Taasisi ya Kuzuia na Kupambana na Rushwa (TAKUKURU) ili kujua kama kuna ukweli wowote ule wa kama taratibu za manunuzi zilifuatwa kwa mujibu wa sheria. <br /><br />Kufuatia tuhuma hiyo,gazeti hili lilimtafuta Meneja,Raphael Merumba ili aweze kuzungumzia juu ya tuhuma anayolalamikiwa,ambaye alikiri foot valve aliyonunua haikuweza kutumika kama ilivyokusudiwa. <br /><br />“Ni kweli foot valve hiyo niliinunua mimi kwa thamani ya shilingi 950,000/=lakini nilipoifikisha kwa mafundi walipoifunga iligoma kwa kuwa matundu yalikuwa mapana na hivi sasa tayari tumeipeleka kwa fundi ili kuweza kuifanyia tena matengenezo” alifafanua Merumba. <br /><br />Kwa upande wake Mwenyekiti wa Bodi ya maji wilaya ya Igunga,Costa Olomi alidai kwamba yeye binafsi alipata taarifa kuwa foot valve imeharibika na hivyo mafundi walifanya mawasiliano ili kuagiza kutoka bohari ya vifaa Dar es salaam kwa bei ya shilingi laki tano. <br /><br />Aidha Olomi alifafanua pia kuwa kilichomshangaza ni kusikia kuwa meneja wa mamlaka ya maji (IGUWASA) alinunua foot valve hiyo kutoka Mkoni Mwanza kwa thamani ya shilingi 9,50,000/= na kwamba walipojaribu kuifunga iligoma. </span></div> <span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div>

Je unakifahamu kilimo hai? <br /><br />Kilimo hai au organic farming ni aina ya kilimo kinachozingatia matumizi endelevu ya rasilimali za uzalishaji wa mazao ya kilimo na mifugo. Kilimo hicho kinatumia mbolea na madawa yasiyotengenezwa viwandani na kinazingatia utunzaji wa mazingira kwa ajili ya manufaa kwa jamii, kiuchumi na kiafya. <br /><br />Tumeirithi ardhi kutoka kwa vizazi vilivyotangulia ikiwa na ubora wa asili, lakini kutokana na matumizi ya muda mrefu, ardhi huzeeka na kushindwa kutoa mazao bora, hivyo kumfanya binadamu kutafuta namna nyingine ya kuifanya ardhi hiyo itoe mazao mengi. <br /><br />Baada ya kuona ardhi imechoka Wakulima wengi huamua kutafuta maeneo mengine yaliyo bora na kuanza kuyatumia. Wakati mwingine hulazimika kufyeka misitu ili kupata mashamba mapya, hali ambayo siyo tu inaharibu mazingira, lakini pia inaweza kututia umaskini wa milele kwa sababu ardhi iliyoachwa awali huwa haitafutiwi njia muafaka ya kuifanya irejee kwenye ubora wake. <br /><br />Wakulima wengine hutafuta mbolea, hasa za chumvi chumvi, na kuzitumia katika ardhi ile inayoonekana kuzeeka. Lakini matatizo mengi huibuka kutokana na matumizi ya mbolea pamoja na madawa ya kemikali kwenye kilimo. <br /><br />Mbolea hizo zina kemikali na madawa ya kuua wadudu yana madhara yake kwani yana sumu isiyoonekana. Sumu hiyo tunakula au tunakunywa na ndizo zinazoleta madhara kwa binadamu na udongo. <br /><br />Mazao yanayotokana na kilimo cha mbolea za kemikali yanaleta athari kubwa zisizoonekana kwa binadamu na hata wanyama. Lakini jambo la kuzingatia kwa sasa, kila mtu anatakiwa kuvuta kumbukumbu zake kulingana na umri alioishi na kuangalia yafuatayo: Hali ya udongo enzi zile na sasa ikoje? Kiwango cha maradhi wakati ule na sasa kikoje? Uwezo wa udongo kuzalisha mazao umepungua au unazidi mwaka hadi mwaka. <br /><br />Inaonyesha kuwa mbolea za chumvichumvi zimechakaza udongo na hivyo kufanya uzalishaji upungue. Hata mazao yanayotokana na matumizi ya mbolea hizo yamekosa ubora wa asili unaotakiwa. <br /><br />Hali hiyo inatia shaka kama umaskini wa Mkulima utakwisha ikiwa hatabadili aina ya pembejeo kuokoa ardhi yake isizidi kuchakaa na wakati huo huo kupunguza sumu isiyoonekana kwenye udongo na vyanzo vya maji. <br /><br />Ni ukweli usiopingika kwamba, mbolea za chumvi chumvi zikiisha muda wake hugeuka sumu na baadaye Mkulima analazimika kutumia gharama kubwa kuweka mbolea za mboji ili kurudisha udongo katika hali nzuri. Sumu hii isiyoonekana inaharibu udongo, vyanzo vya maji na hata mwili wa binadamu wanaotumia vyakula hivyo. <br /><br />Katika Mataifa yaliyoendelea, mbolea za chumvi chumvi zinatumika kupandia na kukuzia miti, hasa ya mbao. Vile vile inatumika kutengenezea mazingira kwa maeneo ambayo hayatumiki kuzalisha mazao ya chakula cha binadamu. <br /><br />Wao wamekuwa wakipiga sana vita vyakula vilivyolimwa kwa kutumia mbolea za chumvi chumvi na ndiyo maana hivi sasa katika soko la dunia bidhaa zilizozalishwa kwa kutumia mbolea hizo za chumvi chumvi zimekuwa zikiuzwa kwa bei ya chini kuliko zile zinazolimwa kwa kutumia kilimo hai. <br /><br />Sasa tujiulize, kwa nini sisi tunaendelea kutumia mbolea hizo zinazoua udongo wetu na kuweka sumu? Hivi hakuna mbolea nyingine mbadala? Jibu ni kwamba, mbolea mbadala zipo. <br /><br />Mbolea mbadala ni zile zinazotokana na marejea na uozo wa asili, uozo wa asili unaotokana na majani mbalimbali, samadi ya mifugo asili, mabaki ya nafaka au mazao mbalimbali (kama maganda na mabua ya mahindi na mpunga). <br /><br />Mbolea hizi zinaweza kupatikana au kutengenezwa katika mazao tunayolima, kwenye mazingira tunayoishi. Mbolea hizi zinasaidia kurudisha udongo katika hali ya rutuba na asili yake na gharama za mbolea hizi ni nafuu kabisa na zinadumu ardhini kwa muda mrefu. <br /><br />Mazao yatokanayo na kilimo cha mbolea za kemikali hayana bei kubwa katika soko la dunia ikilinganishwa na mazao yatokanayo na kilimo hai, ambacho kwa sasa ndicho kinachohamasishwa ulimwenguni kwa sababu kinatumia viuatilifu asilia ambavyo siyo tu vinaongeza tija ya mazao, lakini pia ni rafiki wa mazingira. <br /><br />Kwa mfano, wastani wa bei ya karafuu ya kilimo hai ni TZS 170,000 kwa kilo ambayo ni asilimia ya bei ya karafuu isiyo ya kilimo hai kutoka Shirika la ZSTC. <br /><br />Ili bidhaa zikubalike katika Soko la Kimataifa kuwa zimezalishwa kwa kutumia mbinu za kilimo hai, zinapaswa kwanza kupitishwa na Taasisi zinazosimamia ubora wa bidhaa hizo. <br /><br />Wazalishaji wa mazao ya kilimo hai huwa hawachanganyi mazao ya kilimo hai na yale ya kawaida, hivyo hutumia kanuni za kilimo hai katika kusindika mazao katika mfumo huo wa kilimo hai. <br /><br />Kilimo hai Tanzania kilianza kupata umaarufu katika miaka ya 1990 baada ya Serikali kuruhusu Taasisi kadhaa za Serikali na zisizo za Kiserikali (NGOs) kueneza elimu na teknolojia za kilimo hai kwa Wakulima nchini. <br /><br />Kwa upande wa Zanzibar Shirika la Biashara la Taifa Zanzibar ZSTC limeanzisha na kuendeleza mradi wa mazo ya kilimo hai ambapo kwa hatua ya awali Shirika limeanza na mazao manne (4) ya viungo ambayo ni Karafuu, Pilipili manga, Mdalasini na Pilipili hoho. <br /><br />Hii ni habari njema kwa Wakulima wa Zanzibar kwani mazao ya kilimo hai yanafaida kubwa kwa Afya ya mtumiaji na yana bei nzuri hasa katika soko la nje hivyo ni vyema Wakulima wakachangamkia kilimo hicho kwa ajili ya kuongeza kipato na kukuza uchumi wa Zanzibar. <br /><br />Kwa mujibu wa Mkurugenzi Mwendeshaji wa Shirika hilo la Biashara Zanzibar Mwanahija Almas Ali mpango wa kilimo hai ni Mradi maalumu wenye lengo la kuwaongezea kipato Wakulima Nchini. <br /><br />Hivyo Shirika la ZSTC limeunga mkono juhudi za Serikali katika kuendeleza kilimo hai kwani ambapo linaitoa elimu kwa Wakulima na Wasindikaji wa mazao ya kilimo hai ya Karafuu, Pilipili manga, Pilipili hoho na Mdalasini. <br /><br />Kanuni ni maelekezo ya utekelezaji wa mambo ili yaende sawa kama yanavyotakiwa na kanuni hufuatwa kwa ajili ya kufikia malengo yaliyokusudiwa. Kilimo hai kina kanuni zake ambazo kila Mkulima anawajibu wa kuzifahanu na kuzifuata. <br /><br />Kanuni hizo ni kanuni za Afya, mazingira, kuhifadhi udongo, haki na usawa na kanuni ya uangalizi ambazo zote hizo ni muhimu katika kuweka uwazi katika mfumo wa kilimo hai. <br /><br />Ni lazima kuzingatia kanuni hizo za kilimo hai katika kulinda ubora wa mazao ya kilimo hai ya Karafuu, Mdalasini, Pilipili hoho na Pilipili manga kuanzia kuyapokea kutoka kwa Mkulima hadi yanachambuliwa na hatimaye kuhifhadhiwa na kusafirishwa kuelekea sokoni. <br /><br />Miongoni mwa kanuni hizo ni kuwepo na orodha ya Wakulima waliopasishwa kwa kilimo hai katika msimu husika na kuwepo kwa orodha ya Wakulima walioruhusiwa kuuza mazao ya kilimo hai ambapo wamepasishwa baada ya ukaguzi wa nje. <br /><br />Kanuni nyengine ni kuwepo taarifa ya kiasi kinachohitajika kupokelewa na kilichokuwepo. Kuwepo kwa orodha ya Wakulima waliouza mazao ambayo yanapokewa kwa hati za kusafirishia mazao hayo. <br /><br />Wakati wa kupokea mazao kutoka kwa Wakulima wa kilimo hai lazima kuzingatia uwepo wa usahihi wa nyaraka na kumbukumbu hizo za kila Mkulima wa kilimo hai. <br /><br />Katika ufungashaji, mazao ya kilimo hai hufungashwa kwa vifungashio maalum vinavyokubalika kitaalumu na inatakiwa iwekwe nembo maalumu ya kilimo hai ili bidhaa itoa utambulisho. <br /><br />Kanuni hizo na nyengine zote za kilimo hai zinazingatia urutubishaji wa udongo, mimea, wanyama na uzalishaji wa chakula chenye ubora na usalama wa hali ya juu kwa binadamu, hivyo ulimaji, uvunaji, uhifadhi, usafirishaji na usambazaji unahitaji uangalifu wa hali ya juu. <br /><br />Pamoja na uzuri na faida wa kilimo hai, uzalishaji wake unakabiliwa na changamoto ya uzalishaji mdogo ukilinganisha na mahitaji hasa katika soko la nje. <br /><br />Wakulima wengi wanakosa uwezo wa kuzalisha kwa wingi kutokana na kukosa mahitaji ya msingi katika uzalishaji wa kilimo hicho hasa mbolea isiyokuwa na kemikali. <br /><br />Ni jukumu la Serikali na wadau wengine wa maendeleo kuwasaidia Wakulima wa kilimo hicho kwa kuwapatia pembejeo ili waweze kuzalisha kwa wingi kukidhi mahitaji ya soko hasa soko la nje ambapo itachangia kukuza kipato chao na Taifa. <br /></span></div> </div>

FarmConnecta, a Botswana-based start-up that has developed an information sharing and billing system designed for the agricultural community, received a prize valued at 10,000 euros.<br /><br />The 2015 Orange AMEA Developers Challenge was launched in August in France and 11 other countries in Africa and the Middle East: Botswana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Guinea Conakry, Jordan, Kenya, Mali, Niger and Senegal.<br /><br />The purpose of the challenge is to help stimulate innovation in Africa by offering start-ups the possibility of using Orange’s application programming interfaces (<a href="https://www.orangepartner.com/">APIs</a>) to enrich their applications with functionalities that are sometimes <a href="https://www.orangepartner.com/content/direct-billing-api">essential</a>.<br /><br />The call for applications attracted 1,200 innovative <a href="http://www.entrepreneurclub.orange.com/">projects</a> . The proposed projects illustrated the potential of telecommunications for regional development in fields as varied as healthcare, agriculture, education and energy.<br /><br />Initially, ten projects per country were chosen for the shortlist. Twelve finalist projects were then chosen by a selection panel composed of experts from Orange and from the Information Technologies and Communications industry.<br /><br />The final ranking was as follows:<br /><br />1st: FarmConnecta from Botswana has created a mobile marketplace dedicated to livestock trading. Users can access market data and locate lost cattle via a simple mobile telephone. FarmConnecta takes full advantage of the Texting and Billing APIs to revolutionize m-agri applications in Botswana and potentially everywhere in Africa.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br />2nd: The Nilebot start-up from Egypt uses a hardware and software solution for real-time measurements of water quality in aquaculture. All the collected data is sent via text message in real time, helping aquaculture professionals to be more proactive and to improve their productivity.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br />3rd: The Cycle M start-up from the Democratic Republic of the Congo has developed a family planning system for mobiles (based on an application or through texting). It is based on Public Relations practitioners understanding the values of their nations and repackaging the Emerging Economies stories in a way that would attract investment, see increased tourism, and enable those nations to attain a stronger voice at the global level. <br /><br />On the other hand, the political situation in Africa also demands Public Relations that is responsive and responsible to ensure that there is accountability in delivery of services to the citizens. In this narrative, peace and security are life-threatening issues facing the emerging economies while Public Relations is a strong force in a position to influence how media reports/frames terrorism acts. <br /><br />Recent developments indicate that in the emerging economies like Kenya today, development stories are “selling”, showing a dramatic shift from the past when the media believed that only politics sells. This challenges Public Relations practitioners to package development issues in a compelling manner.<br /><br />It also calls for a redefinition of the role and value of the Public Relations discipline, positioning it to play the critical role of information-sharing, enhancing buy- in, and damage control across all sectors -in government, business, and the social sector.<br /><br />Whereas Public Relations has to follow the global trends, in the emerging economies culturally sensitive approaches to communication need to be adopted in light of the critical role of the profession in the development agenda (Think globally, act locally but professionally). <br /><br />Professional bodies like PRSK need to be empowered and proactively engage in bridging the gap between academics and practitioners. It is critical for these linkages to be established and strengthened between industry and education institutions, and to maintain continuous dialogue in order to develop and enhance the impact of the Public Relations profession.<br /><br />This will help build the credibility of PRSK and similar professional bodies to have the authority to set the agenda, and facilitate discussions about the future direction of research while regulating the profession. The development of a relevant knowledge base and the capacity for Public Relations practitioners to develop content is critical as professionals develop outcome based campaigns.<br /><br />This calls for the need to lay a high premium on documentation of Public Relations & communication best practices from the emerging economies, which have the reality of the local contexts. Practitioners should take the lead and provide sites for documentation of local case studies, model best practices, become research sites, and work with academics to formulate policies for socio-economic development.<br /><br />Legislation and regulation of the practice needs to be actualized urgently but, practitioners must support and entrench a culture of courage to confront what is wrong, empathy to understand the need, integrity to win trust, and the competence to build credibility.<br /><br />The PR industry in the Emerging Economies needs to leapfrog through technology, to take a lead in global best practices. Endowed with new technological advancement, young communicators from the emerging economies can come up with innovative ways of handling the challenges faced in those countries. However, their success as communicators is highly pegged on their leadership abilities; the ability to see around the corner in order to predict, assess and control risks.<br /><br />“The four day meeting attracted global entrepreneurs in the communication industry, Public Relations scholars and heads of renowned global corporate brands as speakers and panelists, said Jane Gitau, Chairperson of the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK).<br /><br />“Apart from the conference plenary and parallel sessions, we had a careful blend of academic discourse, mentorship and skills set workshop for students pursuing studies in PR as well as master classes targeting professionals who are working in diverse economic sectors”, Ms Gitau added.<br /><br />The event, the first of its kind was organized with a focus on emerging economies which have often been excluded as players in the global arena Ms Gitau said.<br /><br />The delegates and speakers were drawn from all continents.
