Presidents Obasanjo and Mbeki recognized that the solution to the current crisis was within the reach of the peoples of South Sudan

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">he African Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan (<a href="http://www.au.int/">AUCISS</a>) </span><span style="font-size: large;"> met with President Thabo Mbeki, in his capacity as Chairperson of the High Level Implementation Panel on Sudan, today 4 September 2014. In attendance were President Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Mahmood Mamdani and Lady Justice Sophia Akuffo.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">The meeting follows nation wide consultations earlier undertaken by the AUCISS with key stakeholders across the spectrum of the South Sudanese society. This meeting constitutes another level of consultation which President Obasanjo observed as ‘providing us an opportunity to receive insight and possible proposals from President Mbeki and the high-level panel, for a lasting solution towards healing, reconciliation, accountability and institutional reform”. DHL Express has grown its retail footprint in sub-Saharan Africa by an astonishing 1,000% in less than three years

Thousands of vendors – such as an electronics store in West Africa, a travel agent in East Africa and a small grocery shop in Southern Africa – now allow their customers to send DHL shipments alongside their normal offerings.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">These small businesses benefit from commission on all DHL sales, an increase in foot traffic as well as being associated with a global brand.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">“It’s really a win-win approach. An entrepreneur in Ghana can send a sample to a client in the US from the same place he picks up his daily newspaper, whereas a mother in Mauritius is now able to ship a birthday gift to her son in France while her car is being filled up at the fuel station.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">DHL also simplified its pricing and packaging options to fit in with the needs of its customers as opposed to the other way around. To make people aware of its retail offering, the streets of Africa are often painted yellow and red through tactical advertising campaigns involving dancing, singing and special DHL giveaways.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">“Through the passion and energy of our 4,000 employees across Sub Saharan Africa, we have changed the perception that DHL only caters for multinationals and big business. Pia, wananchi (47%) waliripoti kutowahi kuzungumza na mwenyekiti wao wa mtaa/kijiji ili kujadili masuala yanayowahusu. Masuala yaliyoonekana kulalamikiwa sana yalikuwa ni pamoja na utoro wa walimu na upatikanaji haba wa maji safi na salama.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Linapokuja suala la kuibua na kuzungumzia masuala yanayoihusu jamii, Sauti za Wananchi ilibaini kuwa watu walijitahidi kuzungumzia matatizo yaliyowakabili. Wananchi nane kati ya kumi (84%) walizungumzia masuala yao walipokutana katika makundi. Wananchi wengine watatu kati ya kumi walipiga simu kwenye vipindi vya redio 32% na 31% walilalamika kwa marafiki zao. Katika kuchukua hatua za kuungana pamoja na kusimamia jambo, wananchi walionekana kuwa wenye uwezo mdogo wa kususia mijadala. Ni 9% tu walioripoti kuwa wameshawahi kususia mijadala ndani ya kipindi cha mwaka uliopita, 8% walishiriki maandamano, 6% waliokataa kulipa kodi na waliotumia nguvu kufanikisha suala la kisiasa walikuwa (1%).</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Kwa kawaida, vikundi vya kijamii hufanya kazi kubwa kusaidia maisha ya watu. Watanzania saba kati ya kumi waliripoti kuwa wamejiunga na moja ya makundi la kijamii. Makundi ya kidini pia yalionekana kuwa maarufu sana: mwananchi mmoja kati ya watatu (36%) alionekana kuwa amejiunga na kundi la kidini na wananchi wa tatu kati ya kumi (30%) walishiriki katika karibu nusu ya mikutano yote iliyoandaliwa na kundi lake. Mbali na makundi ya kidini, vyama vya kuweka na kukopa vilishika nafasi ya pili, ikiwa wananchi wawili kati ya kumi (22%) walikuwa ni wanachama wa vyama/vikundi hivyo. Wengi wao (20% ya wananchi) walihudhuria angalau nusu ya mikutano ya vikundi.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Mshikamano miongoni mwa jamii ulionekana kuwa mkubwa: karibu wananchi wote (98%) waliamini kuwa kama lingetokea tukio lisilotarajiwa, kwa mfano nyumba kuungua moto, jamii yao bila shaka ingekusanyika kusaidia. Kwa upande mwingine, wananchi walipoulizwa kama waliwaamini watu kwa ujumla, tisa kati ya kumi (87%) walionekana kuwa makini sana walipokuwa wakishirikiana na watu wengine.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Wananchi saba kati ya kumi (68%) wameripoti kuchangia moja kwa moja katika ujenzi au ukarabati wa vituo/majengo ya umma. Kati ya hawa, wananchi walio wengi (88%) walichangia fedha na (12%) waliobaki walichangia muda wao. Hii haikulingana na viwango vya ukusanyaji wa kodi, lakini ilionesha kuwa wananchi kwa njia moja au nyingine huchangia uendeshaji wa serikali. Hata hivyo, makusanyo hayaratibiwa vizuri kisheria, michango haikusanywi kwa haki wala kutumika kwa tija chanzo kikiwa uwazi mdogo na mfumo dhaifu wa kudhibitiana. Wananchi wanne kati ya kumi (39%) waliochangia vituo vya umma walisema walilazimishwa kufanya hivyo, na hii iliondoa imani ya wananchi.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Walipoulizwa, wananchi walihisi kuwa na uwezo wa kuzitegemea jitihada zao wenyewe ili kufanikisha mambo yao. Watanzania saba kati ya kumi (70%) waliitetea kauli hii na kusema kuwa wanao uwezo wa kujisimamia mambo yao wenyewe na kukabiliana na changamoto zinazowakabili. How Movitel has changed the life of Mozambican people: From a house helper to a boss – one in many fairy tales created by Movitel

Just two years ago, he was only a house helper in the office this business center of Movitel, SA – a joint venture between Vietnamese company Viettel and Mozambique’s SPI Company. Antonio's journey from a house helper to a master might surprise many people; it’s just like a dream coming true!</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Starting to work for Movitel from January 2012 as a house helper since the company opened stores in the district of Namialo, Antonio was highly appreciated by the district director of Namialo – Mr. Khanh, who hired him due to his enthusiasm, hard work and loyalty. Khanh had an intention to train him to be a store staff as working in the house, Antonio could capture all daily operations of the store, knowing where and how to store the merchandise, and understanding the work of each staff. </span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">After some time, noticing the extremely agile and quick understanding of the “house helper”, Director Khanh assigned Antonio to manage a mobile sales team. Every morning, after a decent cleaning the entire store, from 8am, Antonio led the team to go out selling goods in remote areas. Until September 2012, Antonio was promoted as a salesman of the shop; however, he still took care of the house cleaning at the same time. But from that time on, Antonio's work expanded. In addition to leading mobile teams, he was also in charge of managing and delivery goods to points of sale.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Step by step, Antonio had gained experience and raised up his dream of changing life until it coming true in February 2014, when he officially took over Mr.Khanh’s position as the director of the Ilha island.
