Tamsa Patron and the President of MAT, Dr. Primus Saidia,

TAMSA President, Biswalo Yango,

Members of the Executive Board of TAMSA Tanzania,

Organizing Committee and Medical students from all Universities,

Distinguished Invited guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Good Evening!

I feel so privileged and honored to be invited to open this ceremony of the first Alumni Dinner organized by TAMSA. Thank you very much for inviting me to be with you this night.

I would like to commend highly the organizing Committee and TAMSA members for the effort they have put in organizing a very successful dinner party. I wish also to express my appreciation to those who founded TAMSA and those who devorted their time, knowledge and resources to make TAMSA exist until now and work so successfully.

It is heartening to see a wide spectrum of Alumni members from different hospitals, including Zanzibar, and some of them found in remote areas, have come together tonight. This is a testimony of great importance the alumni members have attached to their association as well as to this event.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The alumni dinner theme says, “Students today, doctors tomorrow, nurture them when they are still young.” I entirely agree with your theme and I would like to assure you that the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania recognizes the importance of the medical career and its associates and that is why it has always been responsive to genuine demands presented by the health professionals. We will continue fulfilling our responsibility of developing our young doctors through various medical colleges and universities we have in the country, and if necessary to send them abroad for more advanced skills and special professions that are not available at home. However, we would like you to fulfil your responsibilities too, which are to work hard to become good doctors and also when you finish your training stay at home to serve your brothers and sisters.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Alumni associations have a wide range of valuable benefits. They provide an opportunity for Alumni members to meet and share their experiences. Some serious associations like yours produce an Alumni Newsletter to help members keep up to-date on what is happening in our modern world of ICT. But more importantly, you can use your association to nurture young doctors to receive career coaching at reduced rate to help them keep up to date to face the challenging employment world.

Today’s event has brought together health professionals and those ones who are in the making. A good thing about professional people is that they love challenges particularly when they are within their areas of expertise. In health sector there are many challenges and one of them facing us, as a nation is to deliver quality health services at affordable manner. It is my hope that you will take up this challenge and advise the government accordingly on what to do to minimize the cost while at the same time maintain the quality of services.

Before I conclude my remarks, I would like to request the organizers that this Alumni dinner should not be the last one because of its importance. Therefore, I call all stakeholders to make adequate contributions towards the future of this event and other activities like scientific conferences, medical camping and outreach programs. These kinds of events help to improve medical students’ knowledge, ideas and skills towards becoming better medical practioners. Let me tell you that the nation depends on you and your serves. You are very important people in our society. Please, when you go to your respective hospitals work hard to serve your fellow Tanzanians. In doing so, you have to follow your professional ethics, mainly avoid strikes. Strikes of doctors are neither healthy nor beneficial to our people. Our people depend on you for their recoveries when they fall sick. It is my sincere hope that you will stick to your ethics.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I thank you again for your invitation and I wish you every success in your work. Please enjoy this pleasant night.

Thank you very much for your attention.
