Weekly flight frequencies to Beirut increased from 14 to 21, to Kuwait from 53 to 77, to Muscat from 28 to 41, to Salalah from 3 to 5 and Tbilisi which went to a daily service. The first seven aircraft it received between 2009 and 2010 were not part of the retrofit programme.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Business Class: flydubai ended the year with 70% of its routes offering Business Class. During the course of the year ahead, it will announce the remaining routes to receive this service and together with the successful completion of the 12-month retrofit programme flydubai will be able to offer a consistent product for its passengers across its network. It also enhanced the business class offering on the ground with the opening of the flydubai Business Lounge at Terminal 2, Dubai International.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Results from the onboard survey and 35 customer touch point measures have shown that 99% of Business Class passengers would fly again and 93% would recommend flydubai. In line with the strategy that led to the launch of Business Class 38% of passengers chose flydubai due to the direct air link. The busiest cargo routes include Colombo, Doha, Juba, Kiev, Kuwait and Muscat. Continued demand for cargo services saw an average of 3,000 tons carried each month and revenue growth was 11.8% compared to 2013.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Financing: flydubai continued its strategy to diversify its sources of funding. In November it issued a landmark debut Sukuk transaction successfully raising $500 million. The 5-year Sukuk was six times oversubscribed demonstrating the strong international investor appetite for this paper. Funds will be used for general corporate purposes and refinancing.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Outlook for 2015</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">2015 will continue to be a demanding year due to the global socio-economic landscape. flydubai will see the remaining aircraft from its 2008 order delivered. As in 2014, flydubai launched its first new service of the year to Saudi Arabia. This saw the first international flight land at Nejran on 10 January and became flydubai’s 12th point in Saudi Arabia. They will also cooperate in structuring sukuk/debt capital market transaction opportunities, co-invest in Islamic leasing companies and support local financial institutions in Africa through the raising of capital via lines of finances. <br /><br />In addition, they will exchange information aimed at upgrading knowledge and expertise about Islamic finance, environmental assessment, project finance and advisory services. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sGxGj7LyGWQ/VPVR9gzjqsI/AAAAAAAAFcM/HSGzslGWtfo/s1600/621.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sGxGj7LyGWQ/VPVR9gzjqsI/AAAAAAAAFcM/HSGzslGWtfo/s1600/621.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Makamu wa Pili wa Rais wa Zanzibar Balozi Seif Ali Iddi alisema Waandishi wa Habari Nchini wana nafasi kubwa ya kuitumia Taaluma yao katika kusaidia Wananchi kufanikisha vyema kura ya maoni inayotarajiwa kufanyika mnamo mwezi wa Aprili pamoja na uchaguzi Mkuu wa mwezi Oktoba mwaka huu. <br /><br />Alisema suala la amani na utulivu ambalo ni hazina kubwa inayojivunia Tanzania hasa ikazingatiwa kipindi hichi cha Taifa kuingia katika kura na uchaguzi huo Wanahabari wanapaswa ku jitahidi kuitumia vizuri kalamu yao katika kulinda amani iliyopo ili isije chezewa. <br /><br />Balozi Seif Ali Iddi alieleza hayo kwenye mahafali ya Tano ya kuwatunuku Vyeti na Stashahada wahitimu 105 wa Chuo cha Uandishi wa Habari Zanzibar yaliyofanyika katika Viwanja vya Wizara ya Habari, Utamaduni, Utalii na Michezo Kikwajuni Mjini Zanzibar. <br /><br />Alisema wanahabari watapojikita vizuri kufanya kazi zao kwa kuzingatia maadili ya Taaluma yao pamoja na uzalendo ni dhahiri kwamba wataisaidia jamii katika kulinda amani iliyopo na kulifanya Taifa hili lipige hatua kubwa ya maendeleo. <br /><br />Balozi Seif aliwaomba wahitimu hao wa Tasnia ya Habari kuwa wanahabari wema watakaoisaidia Nchi kuingia kwenye neema badala ya kuiingiza Nchi katika nakama ambayo kwa njia ye yote ikitokea madhara yake yatamgusa kila mtu. <br /><br />Alielezea matumaini ya Serikali kwamba taaluma waliyopipata wahitimu hao itakuwa chachu ya kuchapuza kasi ya maendeleo miongoni mwa jamii na Taifa kupitia kalamu zao. <br /><br />Balozi Seif alielezea faraja yake kutokana na Maendeleo makubwa yaliyopatikana tokea kuanzishwa kwa Chuo cha Habari Zanzibar ambapo jumla ya wanachuo mia 628 wamehitimu ngazi mbali mbali tokea mwaka 2010. <br /><br />Alisema Wahitimu hao tayari wanafanyakazi katika vyombo mbali mbali vya Habari vikiwemo vya Serikali zote mbili na hata vile binafsi wakiwemo baadhi yao kuamua kujitegemea na kuuza Habari zao kwenye Taasisi za Habari Bara na Zanzibar. <br /><br />Makamu wa Pili wa Rais wa Zanzibar alisema Serikali ya Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar inaelewa changamoto kubwa zinazokikabili chuo cha Habari Zanzibar likiwemo eneo la ujenzi wa majengo mapya ya kudumu ambapo tayari imeshatenga eneo la ukubwa wa Mita 180 kwa 150 litakalojengwa majengo hayo. <br /><br />Alisema Serikali itatenga fungu maalum la fedha mwaka huu wa 2015/2016 kwa ajili ya kuendeleza mradi wa ujenzi wa majengo mapya likiwemo la ghorofa mbili pamoja na kuyafanyia matengenezo makubwa majengo mawili yatakayotumika kama ofisi za chuo. <br /><br />Balozi Seif alieleza kwamba Chuo hicho kimepatiwa eneo lililokuwa Kilimani Bar kwa ajili ya kuanzisha makazi ya kudumu kazi itakayogharimu Shilingi Bilioni Moja na Nusu mwaka huu zikitengwa shilingi Milioni 200 zitazotumika kwa ujenzi wa Madarasa. <br /><br />“ Hivi sasa Serikali tayari imekipatia chuo cha Habari jumla ya shilingi Milioni 90 na kazi za ujenzi zinaendelea na shilingi Milioni 110 zilizobakia zitatolewa wakati wowote kwa mujibu wa mkataba wa ujenzi uliopo “. Alisema Balozi Seif. <br /><br />Alifahamisha kwamba Serikali inaamini kwamba ndani ya kipindi kifupi kijacho juhudi hizo zitaondosha changamoto inazokikabili chuo hicho ukiwemo uhaba wa madarasa . <br /><br />Alieleza kwa hatua hiyo itaipa fursa Serikali kuelekeza nguvu na macho yake katika upatikanaji wa vifaa vya kufundishia kama vbile kamera za kisasa, ujenzi wa studio zinazokwenda na wakati pamoja na ununuzi wa Kompyuta. <br /><br />Makamu wa Pili wa Rais wa Zanzibar alisema Serikali inatambua na kuthamini kwamba Taifa hupiga hatua kubwa ya maendeleo iwapo watakuwepo wataalamu wa kutosha wa kada mbali mbali. <br /><br />Alisema kuanzishwa kwa Chuo cha Habari Zanzibar kulilengwa na Serikali kutoa fursa kwa vijana kupata taaluma itakayowawezesha hapo baadaye kulisaidia Taifa lao katika kusukuma harakati za maendeleo, Uchumi na ustawi wa jamii. <br /><br />Akisoma Risala ya wahitimu hao Chuo cha Waandishi wa Habari Muhitimu Aboubakar Harith Bakari alisema wahitimu hao wameahidi kutumia vizuri kalamu zao ili lengo la taaluma waliyoipata liweze kufanikiwa. <br /><br />Aboubakar Harith alisema yapo mafanikio yanayojichomoza kwa wanafunzi wa chuo hicho wakati wanapokuwa kwenye mazoezi ya vitendo ambapo baadhi ya vituo vya Habari huonyesha ishara ya kutaka kuwaajiri kuendelea na kazi kwenye vituo hivyo. <br /><br />Hata hivyo alisema baadhi ya watendaji katika vituo wanavyofanyia mazoezi wamekuwa wakionyesha dharau kwa wanafunzi hao kiasi cha kuwakatisha tamaa ya kuendelea na mazoezi yao. <br /><br />Akizungumzia suala la ajira Aboubakar alitanabahisha kwamba ongezeko la vijana wasio na ajira litazidi kukuwa kutokana na mfumo wa sasa Taasisi za umma na hata zile binafsi kutangaza nafasi za kazi zikiainisha muhusika lazima awe na uzoefu wa kazi usiopunguwa miaka miwili. <br /><br />Alisema kuna haja ya kuzingatiwa kwa mabadiliko ya mfumo huo unanyima fursa ambayo kwao ni kikwazo kwa vile ndio kwanza wanajiandaa kuingia katika soko la ajira baada ya kumaliza mafunzo yao. <br /><br />Mapema Mkuu wa Chuo cha Habari Zanzibar Dr. Aboubakar Sheikh Rajab alisema juhudi za Uongozi wa Chuo hicho zimepelekea kuongezeka kwa idadi ya wanafunzi wanaodahiliwa kila mwaka. <br /><br />Dr. Aboubakar alisema hatua hiyo imechangia ongezeko la wanafunzi kwenye chuo hicho kwa zaidi ya mara mbili kwa mwaka jam bo ambalo limetoa faraja kwa walimu na Baraza la Chuo. <br /><br />Akitoa salamu Mwenyekiti wa Baraza la chuo cha Uandishi wa Habari Zanzibar Ndugu Chande Omar Omar ameishukuru Serikali ya Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar kwa jitihada inazochukuwa katika kuimarisha Chuo hicho. <br /><br />Nd. According to research by Google South Africa(1), there was an increase of 49% in query volumes in Nigeria, 37% in South Africa and 33% in Kenya, during 2014.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Charles Brewer, Managing Director of DHL Express Sub Saharan <a href="http://www.dpdhl.com/">Africa</a>, says that understanding your consumer, knowing how to target communications to them and ultimately deliver what they want, when they want it, is key to the ongoing success of e-commerce in the region.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">“Africa’s growing middle class is driving consumer demand and in turn, the e-commerce industry on the continent. As a result, retailers need to ask themselves if they are ready for this ‘new’ and evolving client base. Logistically and operationally speaking, businesses will need to shift from a business-to-business approach to a more business-to-consumer approach as retailers will now have to meet the demand of transporting products to individual clients. New structures will need to be implemented to ensure that the company’s supply chain is agile enough to respond quickly and effectively to the increased demand.”</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Brewer adds that while there is huge potential for e-commerce in the region, compared to emerging markets, e-retailing in Africa is still in its infancy. A recent retailing study(2) conducted by Urban Studies on behalf of South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC), revealed that Africa and the Middle East’s share of global e-commerce in 2015 is just 2%, but that it shows high potential. This is supported by a recent report by McKinsey & Company, which revealed e-commerce could account for 10% of retail sales in Africa's largest economies by 2025. Google also predicts that a massive e-commerce market will emerge in Africa by 2017 as the continent becomes more familiar with technological advances.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">As e-commerce gains momentum, it once again highlights the potential for local retailers and entrepreneurs. A great success story is that of Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu, who founded soleRebels, a footwear company in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2005. Within less than a decade, she has been able to grow her business from an organization of just five people, producing for her local market, to a global organization of over 300 employees with eight stand-alone stores, serving over 50 countries. The key to her success in a fiercely competitive retail environment was a combination of traditional African artisan skills and technologies, innovative use of local (often recycled) materials, personal drive and energy, and a global vision.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">“This is just one example of the many opportunities that we are seeing in the region. Historically, one complaint has been the lack of market data within Africa. </span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Without that insight, even companies with the right products for the right market can fail to get them in the right stores, leading to poor sales growth. By bringing together the standard macro-economic indicators with more granular consumer, retail and business data, it is possible to solve the distribution challenges that are so central to success in Africa.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Understanding the retail habits of Africa’s consumers</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Companies that understand who shops where, for what, and when can use that knowledge to inform resourcing and distribution strategies.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">For most of Africa, the percentage of sales through modern trade is still small. While international retailers are making investments in modern trade formats, traditional retail, like the kiosk and table top – a stall set up on the roadside or in a local market area to capture passing trade – is where the majority of consumer retail transactions occur. Even in South Africa, which has the most modern trade within Sub-Saharan Africa, 40 percent of sales come from traditional retailers. And while the preferred traditional retail channel varies by country (i.e. table tops, kiosks, market stalls, grocer, etc.), traditional retail outside South Africa accounts for roughly 90 percent of all consumer goods spending within the region.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">What a given retailer stocks, in what quantity, the price, the supplier and how often stocks are replenished, varies by retail format. This also influences the purpose and frequency of consumer visits. Depending on the country or urban area, consumers may shop at grocers or supermarkets less frequently because of transportation challenges, but visit local table tops daily to stock up on day-to-day items.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Understanding the willingness of Africa’s consumers to try new products is also essential. There is a strong preference amongst consumers for brands and products they know, have tried before or that have been recommended by a trusted source, but the level of openness differs by country. Nielsen analysis shows that, for example, in Nigeria consumer willingness to try new products increased to 73 percent in Q3 2014, but decreased in Ghana to 53 percent.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Identifying the right retailers</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Even with an understanding of consumer preferences and shopping behaviors in Africa, brands still have to identify the best retail outlets for a product. In fact, a small proportion of outlets can account for a disproportionate amount of sales.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">For example, Nielsen’s research and analysis of distribution and turnover of particular goods and products shows that in Lagos, laundry detergents are available for sale in 100,000 outlets, but that 80 percent of all laundry detergent sales come from 35,000 of those outlets, and a full 50 percent come from just 10,000 retail outlets.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">With this type of data, companies can not only identify the right channels, store clusters, outlets, product formats and sizes to meet the needs of Africa’s consumers, they can also optimize supply chains by improving route-to-market planning, availability, trimming waste and eliminating unnecessary costs to consumers, which can strengthen the whole market.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Creating retailer and consumer demand</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">Many brands have experience working with modern retailers to develop assortment, pricing and promotion strategies that can increase demand at a given location. But applying the same approach to traditional retail won’t produce the same results. Understanding the retailer’s environment – how often certain products are replenished, how new products are selected for stocking, use of wholesalers, refrigeration capabilities, etc. – can help brands drive sales.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">The vendor makes the ultimate decision on how and when products are introduced to consumers, as well as how an item is presented and priced. In some cases, if a branded package is too expensive, the retailer may open the pack and split it up; there may be no loss in revenue to the manufacturer, but the brand identity and intention is much weaker.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">That’s why matching the flexibility of the vendor in product and pricing strategies is key to increasing demand and sales over time, such as providing branded cooler boxes to table top vendors for items that require refrigeration, or providing free samples appropriate to the time of day and the way a given outlet is used by the consumer.</span></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <span style="font-size: large;">“With six of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world located in Sub-Saharan Africa, and populations that are growing in size and spending power, there is tremendous promise and opportunity for consumer brands in Africa.
